The McRabbit Brand is Heading to Lagos

The McRabbit brand originated from the East of England, United Kingdom.  The fashion brand was founded since 2010, launched and started trading on the 2nd of February, 2011, which marked the Chinese New Year termed "Year of the Rabbit".

The McRabbit brand was inspired by the Rabbits of the city of Norwich, which were predominantly seen during the sunny days hopping around the carefully grazed green lawn of the beautiful city.

The Rabbit was hereby dressed to reflect the style of an Urban Youth, and to cap it's uniqueness and suave a royal Arabian hat was put at the top of its head. Team McRabbit characterised the Rabbit by giving him its own identity, hence the name "Mr McRabbit".

Today, McRabbit is a registered trademark, trading in over 3 continents and several cities around the world. The fast growing brand has since then not relented in bringing out one of the most carefully cut apparels that money can buy.

Designer Spotlight: Femy Toys

Adeyemi  Femi is an undergraduate of the University of Lagos studying Educational Administration, who is also following his dreams of being one of Nigeria's sort after designers.

What is the origin of your label?

FemyToys is my label name and I don’t intend making any changes to that, before I came about that name there had been series of changes in my label name especially my logo. I have used name like toys & co, toys couture and my previous logos had shield and crown with so many colors. I wasn’t cool with the name because so many designers make use of the word couture. I wanted a unique name for my label and one day it just occurred to me I could actually use my name (Femi). So I decided to fuse FEMI and TOYS together. I know you would be wondering what is it with the TOYS. Toys originated from my baptismal name ANTHONY which is TONY if you decide to shorten it. Still in my quest in having a unique name I decided to remove the N in TONY which leaves us with TOY. So many addition and subtraction you would say. I pluralized TOY  to TOYS and based on that I came up with a full meaning  for the acronym TOYS which is (Touch Of Your Style). That remains my motto and I also call myself the CHARTERED TAILOR.

What was the first piece of clothing you ever designed?

I started designing with making of t-shirts and polos, so the first piece of cloth I worked on would have been a t-shirt .

What are the fabrics you like working with?

I have worked with so many fabrics and wouldn’t say this is my most preferred. Every fabric has its own texture and feel. I would say there is always this kind of communication between the designer and the fabric. Sometimes when I go fabric shopping, I see some fabric which immediately tells me this is what you should do with me. Generally speaking I like to work with glittery materials like sequence.

#MarkTheDate: Bez Idakula, Omoyemi Akerele and Tunde Ero-Phillips for DWSeries April Edition

The organizers of the Design Workshop Series are delighted to announce the confirmation of Bez Idakula contemporary Nigerian composer and super talent, Omoyemi Akerele creative director of Style House Files and curator of the MTN Lagos Fashion & Design Week and Tunde Ero-Phillips Fulbright scholar and sustainable development architect as speakers for the tenth (10th) edition of the DWSeries

Bez Idakula has been tagged as “The next big thing” on the Nigerian music scene by The Guardian and ThisDay newspapers. He has lived up to the hype with his many live performances at Hennessy Artistry Concert Series, Rhythm Unplugged Concert, Lagos International Jazz Festival and the worldwide show- ‘106 & Park’. Bez is currently working with one of Nigeria’s most gifted producers, Cobhams Asuquo. Together they are crafting a sound that can be succinctly described as a breath of fresh air. Bez’s music style is a hybrid of Jazz, Soul, and R&B, a delicious potpourri of sounds he calls Alternative Soul. Though quite different from the ever-popular Afro hip-hop genre in Nigeria, he believes the quality of his music will carve a niche by itself taking him to greater heights as he takes this life long ride, creating and sharing his music with the world.

Bez learnt to play the guitar at the age of nine under the guidance of his late father, studied at the Loyola Jesuit College, Abuja and received a degree in Information Communication Technology ICT at Nigeria’s Covenant University.

Easter in The Ghetto - Pink Pearl Foundation and Oaken Events Spice Up AJ City

The season of Easter reminds us of the ultimate love Christ had for his children. In the same vein, Pink Pearl Foundation and Oaken events extended a measure of love to the children living in the Ajegunle community.

“Since government cannot totally get to the grassroots it is important for individuals, Non-governmental organisations and corporate bodies to imbibe the culture of giving as part of their corporate social responsibility”. This giveaway is just one of the things we do aside from creating awareness for breast and cervical cancer” said, Grace Agbanajelu, representative of Pink Pearl Foundation.

The event tagged ‘Ajegunle Easter Giveaway’ was held on the 6th of April 2012 at the LA primary school complex, behind Ajeromi Local Government Secretariat, Ajegunle and played host to over 5000 children and 600 adults. It was all fun and games for the children as they ate, danced and cheered during the different competitions.

“Just as we had the December Giveaways, Easter reminds us of God’s selfless sacrifice of his only son, Jesus Christ, by giving him up on the cross to die for the sins of all mankind so, we planned this event to reach out to young ones and families who are too often forgotten this season”, said Mrs Ayiri Oladunmoye (CEO Oaken Events). “A lot of us connect and share love with our family and friends but do not remember to spread the love to people who may not enjoy these privileges. In addition to reaching out directly, we are using these events to encourage the spirit of giving.”
Medals were given to winners and the children were treated to outstanding musical performances from Yellow Banty and Pupa Shrieff. Gift Items of different types were also given to the children, which marked the highlight of the event.
